How do Robust doors resist corrosion?

Corrosion – metals kryptonite. It makes your door look ugly, reduces its strength and can even cause injury if someone cuts themselves on it. With a Robust UK product, you won’t have this problem. We’re so confident in our products resistance to corrosion, we offer up to a 10 year warranty. But why are we so confident?

Magnelis

We manufacture most of our products using Magnelis steel. Magnelis is a flat carbon steel coated on both sides in a metallic chemical composition consisting of 93.5% zinc, 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium. This composition provides optimum corrosion resistance – up to 3x better resistance than Galvanised Steel.

Magnelis also has ‘self-healing’ properties on cut edges and scratches/perforations to the external structure. Over time, when exposed to the environment, Magnelis forms a dense zinc based protective film over itself. This film will eventually cover cut edges and scratches that expose naked steel underneath, preventing oxidisation and thus, preventing rust and corrosion. This ensures full protection of the entire sheet of steel.

The extended durability means Magnelis is a highly cost-effective alternative to Galvanised Steel, due to the reduced maintenance required and no need for post painting. This makes Magnelis steel a pioneer in corrosion resistance, being able to withstand some of the harshest environments.

The results of a 1000 hour salt spray test. Magnelis is clearly more resistant to corrosion.

Door finish

Magnelis products are designed to be unfinished, as the protective alloy film is enough to prevent corrosion. However, we add our own finish to our doors to ensure extra protection from the elements.

All our products are available in a wide range of finishes. Our in-house paint facilities at our Longton based factory, offer a range of different finishes. We have 50 standard RAL colours available, along with a non-standard colour range, PVC laminate and stainless steel finishes – all available on request. We also offer a woodgrain PVC laminate if you’re looking for an authentic timber look but want the durability of a steel door.

Choosing the right finish for your door is just as important as using Magnelis steel. The door finish will form an extra barrier between the metal and the outside elements, protecting the metal hidden underneath. This helps to block out the threat of the elements, preventing the steel from corroding and rusting through oxidisation. Also, who doesn’t love a bit of colour?

We also offer on-site paint repairs to ensure your door remains fully protected from the elements.
