Certification

Third party certification gives our customers peace of mind that our products perform how we say they will. Our research and development team regularly send doors for testing with independent bodies to gain certification. We also make continual improvements to our range in line with changing regulatory demands – for example, CE Marking.

We are members of several well-respected organisations that certify or accredit our products. These include Secured by Design (the official Police Initiative to ‘design out crime’), Loss Prevention Certification Board LPCB) and WarringtonFire. As well as these organisations, we are also part of the Door Hardware Federation (DHF) and the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI). As part of our membership to these organisations, our manufacturing process is regularly audited. This ensures we comply with safety, quality and performance standards every time a door is made.

We have had third party testing carried out to certify that our fire exit doors, when fitted with panic exit devices, meet the criteria for panic devices according to the requirements of BS EN 179:1998 and BS EN 1125:1997.

Robust fire doors have been tested to and passed the following standards:

Integrity only to E 240, in mild and stainless steel to:

  • BS 476-20: 1987 & BS 476-22: 1987
  • BS EN 1634-1: 2014 + A2: 2018

Our range of security doors have been tested to and passed BS EN 1627: 2011. They are also available in a variety of LPS 1175 (Issue 7) security ratings from SR2 to SR4 (Certificate Number: 1070a).

Products attack tested to LPS 1175 SR2 standard provide up to 3 minutes of resistance to opportunist attempts at forced entry of protected premises using a range of mechanical tools including: screwdriver, levers, spanner, bolt cutters, claw hammer, drill, shears, etc.

Products attack tested to LPS 1175 SR3 standard provide up to five minutes of resistance to determined attempts at forced entry of protected premises using a wide range of tools including: cordless tools, short axe, cold chisels, crow bar, brick bolsters, gas torch, etc.

Products attack tested to LPS 1175 SR4 standard provide up to ten minutes of resistance to experienced attempts at forced entry using a wide range of tools including: high powered cordless tools, felling axe, sledgehammer, power drill, disc grinder, jigsaw, etc.

Our security doors have also been tested to and passed Warrington Exova Certisecure STS 202 standard:

Robust security doors, in both personnel access and fire escape designs, are also included in the ‘Secured by Design,’ scheme. ‘Secured by Design,’ is the official UK Police initiative to ‘design out crime,’ and covers not only doors but also windows, gates, etc. To satisfy this standard, all products must be a minimum of PAS 24 approved.

Robust security doors have also been tested to European security standard DD ENV 1627:1999.

Our TUFF-DOR security doors are also accredited by LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board). Certified to LPS 1175 SR2 – SR4, they are listed on the LPCB Red Book Live website linked below:

Robust SD4 Security Doors have been tested to and passed EXR2 and EXR3 of the BS EN 13124-2:2004 (Explosion Resistance) standard.

Robust acoustic doors have been tested to and passed BS EN ISO 140-3:1995.

The performance of our acoustic doors is described as the ‘Sound Reduction Index,’ and is shown as a figure in dB (decibels). It is a weighted average over a range of frequencies prescribed in the BS EN ISO 140-3:1995 standard.

Our doors have recently undergone cycle testing to enable the doorset to be CE marked in accordance with UK legislation. Robust UK are one of the first manufacturers in the UK able to fully CE mark our doorsets in accordance with BS EN 14351-1:2006 Windows & Pedestrian Doorsets (External).

The opening and closing cycles of our doors have been tested to and passed Class 7 (500,000 cycles) of BS EN 1191:2000.

Our doors have undergone testing to prove their suitability for use for expected UK weather conditions to BS 6375-1: 2004 Weather Tightness, which incorporates specific tests for:

Air Permeability to: BS EN 1026:2000
Water Tightness to: BS EN 1027:2000
Resistance to Wind Loading to: BS EN 12211:2000

In line with current industry standards, we have had our doors tested as an installed product to BS EN ISO 10077-2: 2003 (calculations for thermal transmission of window framing members), and we are also able to offer a cross-section material calculation rate.

In order to continue to provide quality products, we ensure that, where available, the hardware we use is regularly tested to the relevant European standards, in particular:

Robust are leading the field in our ability to provide full CE marking for our full range of steel doors in accordance with BS EN 14351-1:2006 Windows & Pedestrian Doorsets (External). This legislation requires that manufacturers of non-fire industrial doors apply the CE mark on their products because they are covered by a harmonised standard under the new Construction Products Regulation.

From the 1st November 2019 it became mandatory for external fire-rated doorsets to be CE marked to BS EN 14351-1 AND EN 16034. EN 16034 involves tests for external doorsets with fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics and cannot be used on its own for CE marking purposes. It must be used in conjunction with BS EN 14351-1 and its performance declared on the DoP and CE label we attach to our doorsets.
