Who was involved?
Luton Foodbank supports people across the local community by providing emergency food alongside essential skills in managing finance, smart shopping and cooking on a budget.
Robust has been a part of the Novoferm Group since 2019, alongside BGS Intelligent Door Solutions, which specialises in door installation, servicing and maintenance. Novoferm Group is Europe’s largest provider of door systems, ensuring maximum quality, safety, comfort and aesthetics at a minimum cost.
What was the challenge?
The existing front entrance and rear fire exit door at the foodbank’s warehouse had suffered significant wear and tear over time and had become a risk to security. However, the foodbank did not have the funds and resources to make improvements without impacting on the service they provide to the community.
Robust and BGS recognised the food bank’s impact on the local community, and by working together were able to provide a full supply and fit service to the foodbank free of charge, allowing it to focus more of its budget on supporting the community.
How did Robust help?
Robust recommended and supplied OUTA-DOR for both the front and rear doors, with BGS carrying out the installation at the premises in Luton. The free donation of the product and services at no cost to the foodbank ensured their budget remained intact, and the collaboration between the two Group companies ensured a seamless solution delivery.
What was the solution?
The new entrance steel door was designed with a letter plate, a Hooply sashlock with additional upper and lower cylinders for further resistance to forced entry, and a HOPPE (UK) surface-mounted door closer, ensuring the door closes automatically after use for energy efficiency and security.
For improved aesthetics and visibility, it was powder coated in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey and incorporated a double-glazed frosted vision panel, to allow light to pass through while maintaining privacy.
To support safe and efficient emergency evacuation, the new rear door was fitted with Briton two-point panic bolt hardware. This secures the door at both the top and bottom to increase stability and provide protection against unauthorised entry while also complying with BS EN 1125 for panic exit hardware.
Long term performance
Manufactured from Magnelis® steel, OUTA-DOR is recognised for its exceptional strength, durability and resistance to corrosion, making it a highly versatile steel door solution. Compared to traditional timber doors, steel doors offer improved security and can withstand ongoing wear and tear as well as requiring less ongoing maintenance. This durability reduces the need for frequent replacements, delivering long-term value as well as peace of mind.
With up to 10-years anti-corrosion warranty, OUTA-DOR provides further reassurance of its long-lasting performance and low maintenance requirements, providing a cost-effective fit and forget solution over the lifespan of the door.
