Schools, colleges, and universities face a wide range of challenges when it comes to building safety and management. From protecting staff and students, to meeting fire regulations, reducing energy costs, and creating calm, comfortable learning spaces, Robust UK doors are designed to deliver reliable performance in demanding education environments.

We’ve Got it Covered.
Our steel door solutions provide long-term durability, excellent security, and compliance with essential standards, making them ideal for:
- Primary and secondary schools
- Colleges and sixth form centres
- Universities and campuses
- Student accommodation and halls of residence
- Sports and leisure facilities within education

Security
Security is critical in education, both to safeguard staff and students and to protect valuable equipment and facilities. Entrances, service areas, and plant rooms are particularly vulnerable to unauthorised access and vandalism due to their secluded locations, providing unwanted intruders with the opportunity to gain access for trespass, tampering or theft purposes. Robust UK doors support compliance with Ofsted’s safeguarding framework, helping schools demonstrate that appropriate measures are in place to protect children and young people.
- TUFF-DOR – LPS 1175 certified to SR2, SR3 or SR4 – provides the highest levels of protection where intrusion risk is high.
- SECUR-DOR 2.1 – PAS 24 certified and Secured by Design accredited – offers reliable security for internal and external doors across schools and universities.
- TUFF-VENT – a fully louvred PAS 24 certified doorset – is ideal where secure ventilation is required, such as plant rooms, boiler houses, IT server rooms or bin stores.
Fire Safety
Fire protection is a key priority in schools and universities, with strict compliance required to ensure safe evacuation routes and limit the spread of fire. Containing fire and smoke is critical in protecting lives, preserving property, and minimising disruption to teaching and learning whilst fire damage is rectified.
INNA-DOR and OUTA-DOR provide up to 4 hours of fire resistance, supporting compliance with Building Regulations (Approved Document B). INNA-DOR is also available smoke rated to BS EN1634-3, and is particularly suited to use in corridors and for classroom doors.
TUFF-DOR 2.1 and SECUR-DOR 2.1 can also be specified with 60 minutes fire resistance (selected models), combining security and fire safety in one solution, and our GLAS-DOR is certified for 60 minutes fire resistance (E60) or for both resistance and insulation for up to 90 minutes (EI90).

Acoustic Performance
Noise management is essential in learning environments, helping to maintain concentration and reduce stress for students and staff. Acoustic-rated doors help schools and universities meet requirements for BB93 (Acoustic Design of Schools), creating better environments for teaching and learning.
Both INNA-DOR and OUTA-DOR – when manufactured with a mineral wool infill – achieve 34dB reduction for single doorsets and 36dB for double doorsets, making it an excellent solution for classrooms, lecture theatres, music rooms, and plant rooms adjacent to teaching areas. Our GLAS-DOR solution offers up to 45dB acoustic reduction, allowing visual transparency via fully glazed doorsets, walls, screens and facades but without the sound transference or reverberation expected from glass surfaces.
Glazed Solutions
Creating light, welcoming spaces is important in educational design, particularly in entrance lobbies, corridors, and communal areas.
GLAS-DOR combines the strength of a steel doorset with the aesthetics provided by full glazing; offering safety, durability, and transparency. Bright, open university libraries or secure yet inviting college reception areas are particularly popular applications.
Available as hinged or sliding doors, partitions, facades and screens, it allows natural light to flow into the building to create a welcoming and modern appearance. Available with up to 60 minutes fire resistance (E60) or both resistance and insulation for up to 90 minutes (EI90), GLAS-DOR also offers up to 45dB acoustic reduction – ideal for installation in busy areas to help create calm corridors and study spaces. It’s security credentials include intruder resistance to EN 1627 (RC2 to RC4) and ballistic resistance to EN 1522-2.

Sports & Leisure Facilities
For sports halls we provide specially designed emergency exit doors with rebound panels for protection against protruding hardware in line with Sport England guidance. Most importantly, this protects against injury following collosion with the hardware, but it also reduces the risk of accidental opening too.
Available with a thermal transference U-value of 1.5W/(m²K), they also boast an acoustic rating of 36dB.
Locking & Hardware
Access control is extremely important in educational settings, primarily for safeguarding purposes. Therefore our doors provide a wide variety of locking and access control options to ensure a suitable solution for various entrances and areas within each and every building.
We offer a huge range of manual and electro-mechanical locks, including concealed maglocks to the leading edge and head of the door, and anti-ligature hardware options and finger guards for user protection.
As each door is custom built, we can also prepare the door for alternative hardware to be fitted by the installer, or alternatively fit the client’s own supplied hardware during manufacture.

Finishes & Durability
Educational environments demand doors that can withstand constant daily use, while still looking smart and professional. Robust UK offers:
- Anti-corrosion warranties of up to 10 years for products that are manufactured from Magnelis®.
- Polyester powder coating in over 50 standard colours, with non-standard RAL or BS colours available to ensure coordination with school branding.
- Timber-effect finishes on request, providing a warmer aesthetic that’s particularly popular in areas such as libraries and student accommodation.
- Stainless steel doorsets for high-wear or specialist areas such as science labs and kitchens, providing additional resistance to moisture, chemicals, and corrosion.
